Kennedy Park Burlington -most of the lawn is acceptable- here at park with grandsons- this area near the parking lot is exceptionally weedy and in poor health- playground structures seem to be relatively new- my guess- when construction was completed - new sod was laid between play area and parking- soil beneath the new sod was compacted by construction equipment- soil needs aerating to allow the grass roots from the sod to penetrate into the “native” soil beneath- plantain is thriving because these weeds plants grew up here from seeds- whereas the grass plants were transplanted here from the sod farm where they grew up- Same situation may occur on other lawns when sodding is done- while Turf King recommends core aerations be some yearly- aeration is particularly important on newly sodded grass
