You may have noticed some full page ads in the Hamilton Spectator for WagJag deal of the day. I have too and started to investigate.
Here's what I found out. First there are a number of companies/promoters that do the same sort of thing. (There's a link at the bottom if you like to keep on top of the latest deals.) Some are new, not all are up and running fully in Hamilton. Wagjag is run by the Metroland newspaper chain.
Many of the deals are for restaurants. It's great for restaurants. Fo one thing a restaurant has a lot of potential future business with any one customer or family. So they practically give you something for nothing. But if you like the food, the service, etc, the eating establishment has a huge potential for more business. Until you are eating there 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year, you haven't reached your full potential at that one place. Plus there even may be the other 2 meals for the day.
With Lawn Care, though, it's a bit different. Once you've signed up with Turf King or one of our competitors, you are essentially not in the market again until next year. Okay, you may move or maybe you want to give it as a gift to your parents or your son or daughter, but that's not too common.
Now Wagjag and the others take a hefty commission of up to 50% of the price that the consumer pays for the voucher. So if that voucher cost $10 for $20 worth of food, the restaurant is only getting $5 for giving you $20 worth of food.
I found that Groupon has a special Merchant Store where the commissions are lower, but the Merchant has to do the promoting of the coupon themselves.
At first, you could put a special coupon at your Merchant Store.
Then a couple weeks ago, they called to say that we can't run deals until we have 25 followers.
We are up to 7 followers.
