Maple seedlings

People often worry about seedlings from maples and other trees growing in the lawn. And right now they are popping up like acne on a teenager. Basically. These seedlings won't last in the lawn. Since they are trying to become trees, they need to grow up and tall. Once you start mowing them regularly, they will disappear. One reason dandelions persist in our lawns is because they don't mind the mowing.

Forsythia starting to bloom - this is an indicator of how the season is progressing. Probably we are about 7-10 days behind normal: not that we seem to get a normal season very often. Last year the season was about two weeks ahead of normal.
